One of the biggest challenges of web-print software is whether or not it will fit your operation out of the box, and you don’t know until you buy it. With pay as you go from MyOrderDesk that risk is completely mitigated. Beyond that first hurdle the questions keep building. Is it compatible across various browsers and operating systems? Is it user friendly? How much training will it require? Are they using a well established programming language that won’t obsolete, or conflict with client browsers, firewalls, security settings, and software policies? How much technical expertise will it require on your end, or the clients end? How is their support? How will it fit into our workflow? Are their bugs in the system? Is the company itself stable, and will they be around 5 years from now?
None of these questions can be answered effectively in the early decision making process. Of course it always seems great in a well orchestrated demo with Cherry picked products and ordering scenario’s.
We’ve been burnt on a number of the above questions. We thought we had “the” solution, only to be left disappointed and frustrated years later. Sometimes it can take several years to fully understand the limitations, or to realize that the company you committed to wasn’t stable. We’ve been there. We’ve made mistakes.
If you want a highly compatible and easy to use system with minimal technical expertise required, MyOrderDesk is the solution. If you want a next level solution, MyOrderDesk is still that same solution. It seems to be as simple or complex as you choose to make it, or as your demands dictate. If there’s anything I’ve learned over 10 years of web-to-print applications, no two clients want the same thing. MyOrderDesk seems to have a unique ability to bend with the clients demands. We’re even in the process of adding some highly customized options to our package, because that’s what one of our clients required.
No solution will ever ever be perfect, short of hiring your own team of programmers. When it comes to MyOrderDesk, it’s probably about as close as you’ll get, without breaking the bank.
Lastly, I’d like to plug their support. Excellent! When I call or email, they’re there for me. They walk me through issues, write custom scripts if needed, and connect to my system when necessary to physically show me something. Support is crucial in the first year or so. I also tend to talk with one support person, which is great because they’re familiar with my unique client setups and needs. You aren’t reinventing the wheel with every phone call.

OCE Print Shop has been using MyOrderDesk since Jan. 2005. During that time, we have seen stationery and business card order errors drop to near zero. “80% of your effort goes to 20% of your customers”, used to be business cards for us, now they are a breeze with the online template proof process and fixed shipping/billing addresses provided by profile auto-fill function.
