Good morning!

I woke up this morning with a crazy thought: I can’t wait to get to work today! It actually made me laugh when that thought crossed my mind first thing after the alarm went off.

As many of you know, I just completed a cross-country motorcycle trip from Boston to San Francisco. Before I left, a number of people told me that I would probably get sick of riding and yet every day that I woke up during my six week journey, I had the same thought: I get to ride today. I don’t have to ride. I get to ride!

I feel the same way about my job. Today and every weekday, I get to do something that I am passionately in love with. My oldest daughter works at Apple and I had dinner with her one night recently and marveled at the way she went on and on about her job. She, like her father, is a Trainer and she, like her father, has a passion for what she does and it shows. Never once in four years of I heard Kati grumble about work.

I was in Dallas, Texas recently and I met the manager of a restaurant who was there on his day off. I asked him why that was and he, too, told me, “I love my job!”

In a coaching call this week, I heard a sales rep confess that he was really struggling. He’d been at it for nine months and was discouraged to the point where he told me he was updating his resume. Not something that you want tell your sales coach when he reports to your boss, but I digress…

His first task, I told him, was to decide if Sales as a career, Print, or the company he worked for was at the root of the problem. Only then can he decide whether to fish or cut bait.

I can’t give you the sales tip to love your job, but I can tell you that if you do, it shows. Your coworkers see it and your customers feel it. Count yourself lucky. Like I told Katie: You are in the minority!
